About

Ian Norris studied fine art at Blackburn College of Art where he was awarded a BA (Hons) Fine Art-1st class. He is currently studying for a MA Painting at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I start the process of any painting by producing numerous drawings and small studies from observation. In the studio I use elements of the drawings to form the basis of the paintings. My process embraces chance, spontaneity, and modification. The finished painting results from the physical process of painting and contain multiple applications of paint to create texture and layers; sometimes small or entire sections are scraped back to unveil a variety of colours and textures in the depths of the board or canvas.
